… with potty-training, that is.
The little guy officially moved to the underwear-only, potty-trained 3-year old’s classroom a few weeks before his 3rd birthday. And except for a few accidents here and there, he has been HIGH and DRY at school.
At home — well, he’s getting there. I think it’s a matter of being off a strict school schedule, in which potty breaks are built in. At home, he’s pretty much a free-range kid (within safety guidelines, of course), and when he has been engrossed in some sort of activity, he would ignore all of those “gotta-pee-gotta-poop” signals in order not to stop whatever he’s doing.
But sometime in late October, he started NOT to ignore those signals on a more consistent basis, and he’ll rush into his bedroom, where his potty is, close the door, and do his business. He can even pull his pants up — but unfortunately completely skipping the “wiping” up part, so Mommy Intervention still happens, in addition to flushing his “deposits” in the toilet.
I’m hoping that the he’ll learn the “wiping” step at school, by observing his more advanced male classmates. I certainly won’t demonstrate it!
(Hmmm… I wonder if I should get a potty doll….)
But what has gotten me all excited is that Daniel has started to wake up in the morning with DRY night pullups and go directly to his potty chair. What this means is 1) my pullups expense may soon disappear and 2) he may be completely potty-trained by 2011, and definitely before his 4th birthday.
And considering, last week at his 3-year check-up, he’s 32.2 pounds and 38 inches tall (which is more than half my height!), he’s certainly not a baby anymore!
