What Free Healthcare Looks Like

No better example than what’s in my neighborhood: Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children.

As a professional development field trip two weeks ago, some fellow colleagues and I had a guided tour of Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children, including a luncheon in a conference room.  All I kept thinking was “No parent has to deny care for their kids here.  It’s FREE… WOW.”

Non-profit, albeit privately run.  Generous donations and in-house research and development to create patents are what fund this hospital.

Can I just say that for-profit healthcare (whether private or public), IMHO, sucks?

Okay — back to class for me.

About lizardqueen

If single-mothering were a paid job, I'd be rich. However, it doesn't, so I write (which doesn't pay the bills) and teach (which does). I'm overly-educated in the liberal arts, but that doesn't hinder my ability to be pragmatic and realistic. YAY.
