Like an Easter Egg from Conference Day

Today was the DCCCD mandatory Conference Day for all employees, and even though I usually feel jaded about this annual professional development ritual, I often get something out of it.

So, while the Drum Cafe was lively and Brenda Jean Patrick was inspirational, it was Taylor Mali‘s video “What Teachers Make”  (shown at the beginning of a poorly attended breakout session) that made the entire Conference Day worth it.

Now, as soon as I had some free time in the evening, I looked him up in YouTube.  To quote the Hubby, “He’s brilliant.”

My favorites (so far):

“The The Impotence of Proofreading”

“Reading Allowed”

“Speak with Conviction”

“I Could Be a Poet”

If single-mothering were a paid job, I'd be rich. However, it doesn't, so I write (which doesn't pay the bills) and teach (which does). I'm overly-educated in the liberal arts, but that doesn't hinder my ability to be pragmatic and realistic. YAY.
