Donate Books for a Good Cause

SKD did an end-of-semester book drive, getting eleven copy-paper boxes’ worth of books out of it.  Not bad for a drive that lasted only over a week!

What’s good is that we’re able to help a lot of folks with this drive:

1) Replenishing the Children’s Library at Eastfield’s on-site daycare, the Parent/Child Study Center: four boxes of children’s books.

2) Helping fund the National Center for Family Literacy, via Better World Books: three boxes of college textbooks.

3) Contributing to the Mesquite Public Library’s holdings and/or book sales’ fundraising: four boxes of textbooks and tradebooks.

The daycare staff at PCSC got their books late last week (boy, were they happy to get them!), UPS will pick up the BWB shipment tomorrow morning, and I’ll be schlepping the MPL’s books in my wee car tomorrow as well (hopefully with an able-bodied SKDer to help — but with the fall semester officially done, who knows?).

Now, while those three places were what SKD decided to go with — okay, it was *me* who decided to go with those three as my SKD chapter officers seem to have either slacked off or gone no-show-busy-studying — there were other alternatives that I thought SKD to donate books to:

Got Books?

And, of course, your local public library and public school library, if the cost of mailing books is too prohibitive (which is a definite concern this shakey economy these days).

After all, ’tis the season for giving!  🙂
