“It Smells So Badly, It HONKS.”

The title to this post comes from an event back in college.  Back in college, the Hubby would sometimes hang out with a group of guy friends who were also roommates in their student apartment.  They called themselves, “The Rock Stupid Students,” and their, well, hi-jinks, often matched their title.

In one instance, the Rock Stupid Students didn’t feel like taking out the trash (they lived three stories up), so they stored the bags of trash on their outside balcony.  They kept doing this, until the balcony was pretty much inaccessible, with mountains of bagged trash. Unfortunately, the trash bags were cheap, and the trash started to leak, stinking up the whole area.

So when the Hubby checked out the impromptu land-fill, he declared, “Jeez! It smells so badly, it HONKS.”

This story came to my mind when I read this.   We can see sound!  Makes the term “audio-visual” literally a unified concept, and perhaps explains why lectures demand visuals to make concepts stick in a person’s mind.

Of course, now all I can think of are mutant bat-people, echo-locating as they walk around… 🙂

If single-mothering were a paid job, I'd be rich. However, it doesn't, so I write (which doesn't pay the bills) and teach (which does). I'm overly-educated in the liberal arts, but that doesn't hinder my ability to be pragmatic and realistic. YAY.

It goes to show that natural systems tend to do what works — not necessarily what makes sense.
