Baby Gotz Da Shotz II

Daniel had his four-month check-up and vaccinations this afternoon. Taking his caregivers’ advice (the Filipino and Hispanic grandmas), I gave him baby Tylenol before the appointment and made sure to have his bottle on hand.

His caregivers were a little concerned that he might have an ear infection — he’s been fussy, not finishing his bottles — so his good doctor checked his ears. Well, first she had to clean out his ears of earwax, and — boy howdy! He DID NOT LIKE THAT ONE BIT. Understandably so — how would you like a giant jabbing a hard plastic STICK in your ear, scraping out your ear canal? 😦

The good news, however, is that the ears are clear — he just has a cold. 🙂

But poor boy — seems like he’s inherited my touchy skin, Like me, he has eczema — face, head, and even starting on his *back*. So she’s prescribed some ointment for him, and no perfumed *anything* for the Daniel-san. That includes baby bath cleansers and lotion.

Looks like we gotz here a Eucerin-n-Cetaphil boy!

As for the actual shots: This time around, because of a vaccination recall, he had five shots instead of four. As usual, it took about shot number two for him to realize what was happening, and by the third shot, he was crying his little head off. Hence the bottle — as soon as the nurse was done and put the little band-aids on his chubby thighs, I swooped him up, rocking him a bit, and gave him his bottle.

Settled right down, thank goodness.

He’s hitting all the developmental marks: Holding his head up, whether on his tummy or being held up. Wanting to roll over. Bearing weight on his legs easily — actually, he likes to kick and jump. Laughs and squeals and coos. Puts everything in his mouth, but especially his toy ring-links, his fingers, and his blankies. Responds to people happily. Likes looking at himself in the mirror.

(Now the great experiment — is Daniel ready for a little bit of rice cereal???? Hmmmm….)

All in all, he did really well with his doctor’s visit. Barring medical weirdness, two more months till his next one!

It’s the worst when something like scented laundry detergent can drive you nuts

“a lifetime of itchy hell” — yup. You can’t cure it. But you can beat it down into low-level submission.
