Dissonance in the Grocery Store

The grocery store that I regulary shop at doesn’t play Muzak; instead, it’s actual pop songs, of the “adult contemporary” variety.  Often, whatever’s playing over PA system is catchy enough that I often hum along as I go along with my shopping, not quite realizing what I’m humming unless I stop and actually listen.

A couple of days ago, while perusing the baby aisle for formula and diapers, I was humming along, until I actually listened to what I was humming along to.

It was Bonnie Raitt’s “I Can’t Make You Love Me.”

Kinda dissonant with my happy little shopping errand for the Daniel-san.  But I gotta admit: it’s a beautiful song.

If single-mothering were a paid job, I'd be rich. However, it doesn't, so I write (which doesn't pay the bills) and teach (which does). I'm overly-educated in the liberal arts, but that doesn't hinder my ability to be pragmatic and realistic. YAY.
