Sick Baby

Just one day shy of his first month in this world, Daniel has his first cold.

At 5:45am, this morning, I woke up to a crying Daniel, who was having problems breathing because of nasal congestion, coughing, and sneezing.  After aspirating him, I fed him, checked his diaper (clean), rubbed a little bit of Vicks VapoRub on his throat and chest, and brought down the “steaming monkey” — the Evenflo Warm Mist Vaporizer — which I filled up with water, put a few drops of eucalyptus oil in the medicine reservoir, turned on the whole shebang, and have it sitting just out of reach of Daniel.

Daniel, bundled up like a burrito, is not a happy little boy.

Since he’s under three months of age, he’ll have no cold meds at all.  So lots of liquids (all he can drink formula) and more of the above.  As well as lots of rest.

And, can I just say just how heart-wrenching a sick baby’s weakened cry is?

If single-mothering were a paid job, I'd be rich. However, it doesn't, so I write (which doesn't pay the bills) and teach (which does). I'm overly-educated in the liberal arts, but that doesn't hinder my ability to be pragmatic and realistic. YAY.

Sorry to hear that, there’s a lot of sickness going around. Hope he gets better soon! Watch those essential oils though, some of them might be a tad too stong for such a young baby…
