Summer I Teaching

Woo-howdy, it’s amazing how four hours can go by so fast.

I started teaching my two summer morning classes on Monday.  ENGL 1301 at 7:30am.  Yes, that’s right.  7:30 in the freakin’ morning, nearly 25 miles away from where I live.  Zombie-sleepy-commute, anybody?  I actually played Jonathan Coulton’s “Code Monkey” as I started writing on the board on Monday, just to wake up.  Of course, I pretty much set the tone for the rest of the summer session in ENGL 1301 for doing that.  But, hey, they’d find out that I’m a goofy teacher sooner or later anyways.

As for ENGL 1302, I’m doing the new formulation of this course.  So far, so good.  We talked about “ethical problems” in general and got some good discussion from it.  Of course, since I role-model and use my own life experiences as examples for my students, I also got some *advice* from them.  But, hey!  They were engaged and got talking.  Not bad for a 9:40am class that lets out at 11:40!

So that’s my summer for the next few weeks, until July 3.  And now, Tadpole needs lunch!

About lizardqueen

If single-mothering were a paid job, I'd be rich. However, it doesn't, so I write (which doesn't pay the bills) and teach (which does). I'm overly-educated in the liberal arts, but that doesn't hinder my ability to be pragmatic and realistic. YAY.
