Stunned me — I thought I was doing another dry run practice last night, but, after doing everything on the Blue Glove test list along with my fellow Blue Glove testee, my savate teacher went over the list, shrugged, said that we didn’t have to do this again on Saturday (the offical test date), and said we had both passed.
I don’t know how other schools do their testing — savate is the first martial arts form that I’ve ever learned, and my futzing around with a tiny bit of Yang form tai chi doesn’t count — I did that for health. And, as I’ve mentioned in earlier posts, this school is really small, less than ten students. So, yesterday, feeling relaxed and loose because, hey, this doesn’t really count, and saying, “Yeah, sparring, let’s go!” Joe and I did the test not realizing we were doing the test.
If only I can feel that calm and loose under stress — that’s where the real training comes in, I think.
And now, if my housemate gets over being sick today, then I might actually see what a White Glove (equivalent to a black belt, I think) test looks like tomorrow…
